S-003 - 11 oz - beige/brown selvage denim
light-brown selvage denim with white-olive selvage
1 × 50 cm = 50 cm Gesamtlänge
This reactive-dyed selvage denim from Japan weighs 11 oz and is ideal for lightweight jeans, jackets, overshirts, or summer accessories. At this weight, the fabric combines a comfortable flexibility with sufficient stability—a versatile foundation for projects that require both lightness and substance.
The denim is unwashed and, when new, exhibits a clear structure and retains its shape, yet is significantly more supple than classic 14 oz denim. With wear, the material softens and conforms comfortably to the body without losing its defined silhouette. The result is a vibrant yet controlled appearance with a subtle patina.
The reactive dyeing process creates a light beige-brown tone with a uniform, lasting color effect. In contrast to naturally indigo-dyed versions, the focus here is less on strong contrast fading and more on the calm, elegant aging of the material.
The fabric is produced at Nihonmenpu in Okayama – one of the most important regions for high-quality denim in Japan. There, fabrics with an authentic feel and a precise, clearly defined appearance are created on traditional shuttle looms.
Thanks to its lighter weight, the 11 oz selvage is particularly pleasant to work with. A jeans needle in size 80-90 is usually sufficient; however, a reduced sewing speed is recommended for multi-layered fabrics.
The last photo shows, as an example, the development of the fabric over a longer period of wear - a subtle, harmonious change that subtly underlines the character of this light selvage.

Please do not wash the denim before processing. As an unwashed "raw selvage" fabric, it only develops its characteristic structure and fit through wear.
Wash the finished garment only after it is completely sewn. The respective shrinkage values for length and width should therefore be taken into account during pattern construction and size planning.
