S-008 - 14.5 oz - dark indigo selvage denim
indigo-blue selvage denim with red and white selvage
1 × 50 cm = 50 cm Gesamtlänge
This 14.5 oz selvage denim from Japan embodies substance, depth, and a handcrafted presence. It is ideal for durable jeans and jackets that intentionally showcase a robust materiality and a distinctive surface.
At 14.5 oz, this fabric is among the more robust classic denim qualities. When new and unwashed, the denim is firm, retains its shape, and has a pleasant feel. The medium-weight weave gives the fabric a vibrant texture without appearing busy. Subtle irregularities in the yarn add depth and an authentic, handcrafted look.
With increasing wear, the material develops a noticeable suppleness and adapts individually. The more pronounced surface structure creates expressive creases and contrasting washes, giving the fabric a powerful patina.
The distinctive red and white selvedge adds a classic touch and alludes to the traditional production on narrow shuttle looms. The fabric is manufactured by Kuroki in Okayama – one of the most renowned regions for high-quality selvedge denim in Japan.
Despite its heavier weight, 14.5 oz denim can be sewn with a well-adjusted, sturdy domestic sewing machine. A size 90-100 jeans needle is recommended; when sewing multi-layered flat-felled seams, a reduced speed should be used.
The last photo exemplifies the development of the fabric over a longer period of wear - a striking, high-contrast patina that impressively highlights the structure and depth of this 14.5 oz selvage.

Please do not wash the denim before processing. As an unwashed "raw selvage" fabric, it only develops its characteristic structure and fit through wear.
Wash the finished garment only after it is completely sewn. The respective shrinkage values for length and width should therefore be taken into account during pattern construction and size planning.
