S-012 - 18 oz - slub indigo selvage denim
dark indigo-blue selvage denim with white-pink selvage edge
1 × 50 cm = 50 cm Gesamtlänge
This dark indigo-dyed selvage denim from Japan weighs 18 oz and is a robust heavyweight fabric. It is produced by Kuroki in Okayama on traditional shuttle looms, known for their dense and distinctive weave. It is ideal for jeans and jackets that demand substance, a striking texture, and a vibrant material appearance.
When new, the fabric is robust, firm, and highly textured. The pronounced slub look is particularly striking, giving the fabric a noticeable dynamism. With wear, the denim softens and adapts comfortably to the body without losing its distinctive character.
Over time, the fabric develops a particularly vibrant coloration. The pronounced "waterfall" textures are created by the natural abrasion of the slubs and emphasize the individual fading. This results in a characterful, dynamic appearance with deep light-dark contrasts.
Despite its weight, 18 oz denim can be sewn with a powerful domestic sewing machine. A size 100 jeans needle is recommended; for multi-layered flat-felled seams, a reduced speed should be used to achieve a neat finish.
The last photo shows, as an example, the development of the fabric over a longer period of wear – a vibrant, high-contrast fading that particularly impressively highlights the slub structure and the “waterfall” effects.

Please do not wash the denim before processing. As an unwashed "raw selvage" fabric, it only develops its characteristic structure and fit through wear.
Wash the finished garment only after it is completely sewn. The respective shrinkage values for length and width should therefore be taken into account during pattern construction and size planning.
