S-015 - 13 oz - antique blue selvage denim
antique-blue selvage denim with white-beige selvage edge
1 × 50 cm = 50 cm Gesamtlänge
This natural indigo linen selvage denim from Japan weighs 13 oz and is manufactured by Nihon Menpu in Ibara . With a 15% linen content, the fabric combines the classic indigo denim look with a unique texture and is characterized by striking, vertical lines – a so-called "waterfall" structure that gives the fabric dynamism and character.
When new, the denim appears firm and stiff, as is typical for unwashed raw selvedge fabrics. The underside of the material displays a natural beige tone, creating a subtle, warm contrast to the top. With wear, the fabric develops a pleasant suppleness while retaining its distinctive vertical line structure.
The pronounced "waterfall" effects become particularly noticeable when worn and subsequently washed, giving the fabric a unique, vibrant patina. Despite its robust structure, the denim remains manageable and is suitable for jeans, jackets, or accessories that are meant to showcase texture and character.
Thanks to its 13 oz weight, the fabric can be processed with a standard household sewing machine. A size 90 jeans needle is recommended; for multi-layered flat-felled seams, the sewing speed should be reduced to achieve precise seams.
The last photo shows, as an example, the development of the fabric over a longer period of wear – the distinctive waterfall structure, combined with the natural beige tone of the underside, unfolds a lively, characterful patina.

Please do not wash the denim before processing. As an unwashed "raw selvage" fabric, it only develops its characteristic structure and fit through wear.
Wash the finished garment only after it is completely sewn. The respective shrinkage values for length and width should therefore be taken into account during pattern construction and size planning.
