S-004 - 12.3 oz - antique blue selvage denim
antique-blue selvage denim with white-red selvage edge
1 × 50 cm = 50 cm Gesamtlänge
This antique-blue indigo-dyed selvage denim from Japan weighs 12.3 oz, placing it in the versatile mid-range of classic denim qualities. It is ideal for jeans, jackets, or shirt jackets that should have substance without appearing too heavy.
With its moderate weight, the fabric combines comfortable wearability with noticeable stability. When new, the unwashed denim is crisp and slightly textured, yet more supple than heavier 14 oz denim. With wear, the material develops a soft, natural shape and molds itself to the individual's form – without losing its defined silhouette.
Characteristic of this quality is its very homogeneous appearance. The surface shows hardly any pronounced texture or slubs, but appears calm, even, and clearly defined. The antique blue hue thus unfolds a particularly elegant, medium blue depth. Over time, harmonious, subtly graduated washes develop, giving the fabric a vibrant look without creating strong contrasts.
The fabric is produced by Kuroki in Okayama – one of the most renowned regions for high-quality selvage denim in Japan. There, fabrics with an authentic feel and a precise, balanced surface effect are created on traditional shuttle looms.
The 12.3 oz selvage fabric can be easily sewn with a well-adjusted, standard household sewing machine. A jeans needle in size 80-90 is usually sufficient; for thicker flat-felled seams, a reduced sewing speed is recommended.
The last photo shows, as an example, the development of the fabric over a longer period of wear - a uniform, characterful wash that subtly further develops the medium blue Antique Blue tone.

Please do not wash the denim before processing. As an unwashed "raw selvage" fabric, it only develops its characteristic structure and fit through wear.
Wash the finished garment only after it is completely sewn. The respective shrinkage values for length and width should therefore be taken into account during pattern construction and size planning.
